Irving Oil Accused of Fixing Gas Prices
Criminal charges have been laid against Irving Oil and its Quebec manager, alleging that they fixed the price of gasoline in Victoriaville, Thetford Mines and Sherbrooke, Quebec.
The charges are part of the Competition Bureau’s ongoing investigation into gas price-fixing in certain Quebec communities. To date, 39 individuals and 15 companies have been charged. Twenty-seven individuals and seven companies have pled guilty and been fined over $3 million. Six of the 27 individuals who pled guilty were sentenced to imprisonment for a total of 54 months (in all cases, to be served in the community).
