David Vaillancourt speaks at CBA Competition Section Spring Conference
David Vaillancourt appeared as a speaker at the Canadian Bar Association’s Competition Section Spring Conference. David was a participant on a panel discussion entitled “Expanded Private Rights of Action for Reviewable Practices: What Should a New Regime Look Like?”. The panel discussed upcoming proposed changes to the abuse of dominance provisions of Competition Act, which will grant private parties the ability to sue dominant companies for anticompetitive conduct. The panel canvassed the proposed changes and debated whether further amendments to the abuse of dominance regime would be appropriate, including creating a right of damages for private parties, and eliminating the need to seek leave of the Competition Tribunal to commence a proceeding.
